KRISTEN NIX - PRINCIPAL
Kristen Nix Interiors is the principle of the Austin-based residential design firm known for creating spaces that feel at once contemporary and timeless. As a designer, Nix playfully engages texture and color, unabashedly mingles antiques with modern styles, and deftly mixes pieces from various price points. Clean lines and tailored details are hallmarks of Nix’s look, which is guided by principles of balance, symmetry and simplicity.
After earning a bachelors degree from the University of Texas at Austin, Nix continued to hone her skills at Vogue in New York where she worked in the fashion department, and later at Neiman Marcus in Dallas where she was an Art Director for the store’s famous publication The Book. As her creative focus narrowed to interiors, Nix pursued a degree in Interior Design from Houston Community College and studied under British designer Kelly Hoppen in London. Before starting out on her own, Nix worked for renowned decorator J. Randall Powers, who remains a major influence.
As the mother of three boys, Nix understands that rooms need to be as functional as they are fun to look at, and as intuitive as they are interesting. She approaches each project with personal attention, inspired pragmatism and professionalism. Though every client is unique, Nix’s goal is always the same—to create a beautiful, livable space that meets the client’s needs.
Kristen Nix Interiors is a 2013 recipient of Decorative Center Houston’s “Stars on the Rise”.
